Blog Title: ISL: Students Tour of India

http://islstudentstourofindia.blogspot.com

Since September 2010, schools from across the globe were brought together by GreenContributor a Canadian based organization in conjunction with Friedrich-Alexander-University, Germany - to collaborate and work on environmental projects and sustainability programs in which the students identify the problems within their countries and through research help to provide solutions to their local communities. The students from the International School of Lusaka have worked on projects such as Global Infectious Diseases, Marine Pollution and the dangers of using plastics.

Through their collective collaboration and sharing of information, the students have been able to achieve the following:

· Wrote an article on Global infectious diseases which is now on the United Nations Website in New York

· Interviewed local leaders on their views about various global problems

· Held a teleconference between the students in India, South Carolina, Hawaii and Zambia where students had an opportunity to interview live Dr. Johnson from the United States of America who is an expert on infectious diseases.

· Attended a “Plastic Are Forever” Youth Summit in Los Angeles, USA from 13 – 15th March 2011.

· Recorded a video about the change the students would like to make in changing the world – it is found on youtube

After the Youth Summit, the students resolved to embark on various projects that would help in the sensitization of their communities in ways of how to reduce, reuse, recycle or even replace plastics in their lives.

It is with this view in mind that the International School of Lusaka took the first initiative to invite the schools to meet informally to learn first hand and appreciate each others cultures and the beauties that the natural environment has to offer. Students from two schools in India (Delhi Public School, Ahmedabad and The Cambridge School) came on an exchange to Lusaka – they were hosted by the students of the International School of Lusaka and they were privileged to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World – The Musi o Tunya (The Sound That Thunders). This is the popular Victoria Falls.

On the 13th October, The students from the International School of Lusaka will participate in a reciprocal exchange visit and tour of India.

The students will share their daily activities on this blog.

Please come and join us on this tour and we hope your enjoy the postings.
